08:11 pm - health care
The House version of the health care bill passed. If the people that got this done can successfully get 60 votes in the Senate to pass a version with the government option, then by January, me and a LOT of people I care about will be able to purchase health insurance.
this might get ugly. fair warning. and long! )

05:51 pm - Saw 6!
So by now most people think Saw is old news, or they're tired of it. That makes sense, since one has come out every year for the past few years. But I still really love it, and always get excited when a new one comes out. I am a Saw freak, there's no question about that. I managed to meet Tobin Bell aka Jigsaw last year, here's pics for those that didn't see em: one two

The last two movies before this one weren't the greatest, honestly. 4 and 5 were just roughly put together, there's no getting around that. I think after the big twist at the end of 3, it was difficult to piece together a smart, cohesive story for sequels.

Somehow, the culmination in 6 was done really well. It's definitely my favorite since 3 (I liked the first one best of course, and then 3 was my second favorite). It might also be that I went in expecting very little, but they pulled out an awesome story for this one. This movie is more based around actually having a good, engaging plot instead of the twist at the end that the others seemed to rely on.

But I loved it! And I totally didn't think I was gonna! Saw foreverrrrrrrr~~ /fanboyism

02:20 pm - New Apple ads for Windows 7 launch
These are so great. I mean, it wouldn't get me to buy a Mac, and I <3 Win 7, but they're still funny as hell.

The first one is the best.

06:47 am - PSP Go
People have a bad opinion of the Psp Go, which came out a couple weeks ago. The facts about the thing just don't add up. Not even the most hardcore Sony fans are buying this thing - and it just came out. I really like my psp, which is what makes this really tough to accept.

time for geeky console talk! )

04:10 pm - holy freakin crap
The new Inuyasha... it's so good. So good.....

I had no expectations, but it's so unbelievable. I am so happy that I have something to freak out about every week in addition to One Piece.

07:59 am - Windows 7
I got another hookup in the form of a legit copy of Win 7 Ultimate. I installed it on a second partition and have been using it for a couple days. There's a lot to love about this os, but there's a lot to hate too..

The short verdict: Windows 7 rules and it sucks

Why it rules
- it's faster
- much better support for hardware and 64 bit computing (this is really just another way of saying it's faster)

Why it sucks
- things are needlessly rearranged and hard to find
- you can't change certain things back to old school style
- driver support will be slim for a few months

details are detailed )

06:17 am - Google Wave
I got my first look at this today after my invite finally went through (Daniel sent it to me over a week ago, they take a long time to process)

I wasn't sure what it was all about, but I'm a big fan of gmail and other large scale things google tries to push out, so I wanted in on this one early. From what I gather so far, wave is a way to collaborate with a lot of nifty extra stuff added. It's sort of like email with facebook added to it, and other new things that no one has done yet. I don't know enough about it to give it a true overview but there's some big stuff that's really cool:

- You can see what others do in a wave in real time. It's kind of like typing on aim and you can see that "person is typing" thing but in this case you see what they're actually typing as they do it.
- You can add stuff from lots of places that you'd normally want to, but couldn't till now. For example you can just drag a pic/tune/vid into the browser window and it uploads it somewhere so everyone in the wave can see it.
- This is the biggest one: you can embed waves on web pages and people can edit them there. It's kind of like adding an image or link to a webpage, the way they describe it. Instead of that you're going to add a "wave". I dunno how functional this is yet, but certain sites have it enabled already so that you can embed a wave in the html of a page and people can alter the wave, so in your browser you can see that stuff happening in real time.

The way I understand it, sites need to alter the api (application programming interface, just the way a program communicates with another one) so that they can support waves before you can just post them. I also just realized I wrote all of this without explaining what the heck a wave is..

I guess a wave is just a bunch of chat and activity. Sort of like a forum or an email, where you can add things to it that normally can't be fit in those things. I am sure there's more I don't know, but I hope to learn it as I go along.

04:12 pm - wow
This is just.. so heartwarming. Even if our country is busy talking all kinds of shit about Obama, the rest of the world is appreciating him with open arms.

He won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize today. He was chosen as a sign of kindred support for what he is trying to do. Even he was surprised by it:

Mr Obama - woken up with the news early on Friday - said in an address at the White House that he was "surprised and deeply humbled" by the award.

He said he did not feel he deserved to be in the company of some of the "transformative figures" who had previously received the award.

Speaking outside the White House, he said he would accept the prize as a "call to action".

It just makes me really happy to know that the rest of the world is cheering him on when he needs it the most.
